08 days: Classic Moremi/Okavango Delta Safari

8 day Classic Moremi/Okavango Delta Safari focuses primarily on one of the most striking and unique places in Africa – the Moremi Game Reserve/Okavango Delta.

Safari vehicle
For 2012 these luxury tented mobile safaris are going to also run set date departures. We have secured 14 safari itineraries within the Moremi Game Reserve, each 7 nights with 2 camps set up in remote areas. These itineraries focus specifically on wildlife and wildlife photography.

The Okavango is a natural wonder – an inland delta formed by rivers flowing from the highlands of Angola to create an oasis for hundreds of different species of mammals, fishes, reptiles, birds, and plants.

A tented safari is the classic, old‐fashioned way of traveling through the African wilderness and allows you to enjoy great mobility through these untamed areas.

On your arrival in Maun, you will be collected by your guide and driven to the Moremi Game Reserve. This journey will take you through the town of Maun, passing villages along the way where rural life continues as it has done for years.

Ever changing sceneries will bring you to the entrance of the park and the chance of great game sightings, before being welcomed to your mobile bush camp. This drive will take approximately 4 hours with a picnic lunch and refreshments along the way.

You will spend 3 nights in this camp and then move to a new location for the following 4 nights. When the camp is to be moved, you will wake in the morning to enjoy a wonderful breakfast while around you the camp is being taken down. You will then have a leisurely game drive with a picnic lunch, and arrive at your new destination, with the camp miraculously resurrected, your shower water hot, a campfire on the go and your supper being prepared!
On your last day, you will be driven back to Maun after breakfast, hopefully catching a few more amazing sightings along the way.

Whilst on safari, you can be guaranteed a degree of luxury: our camp staff includes chefs, waiters, tent keepers and drivers, all African citizens who share the love of this unique place and a life in the African bush.

Accommodation consists of spacious walk‐in tents, complete with beds, linen and all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay in the bush. Each tent has its own hot bucket‐shower and long‐drop toilet situated not far from the tents. Meals are prepared according to the highest standards and your dietary requirements. You will always have a selection of soft drinks, fine wines, spirits, and mineral water at hand, and our vehicle fridges guarantee cold drinks on the game drives.

The open vehicles used are designed for comfort and are excellent for game viewing.

The Moremi Game Reserve covers approximately one third of the Delta, and incorporates permanent swamps, marginal floodplains, and dry acacia and mopane forests. This is big game country. Elephants, buffalos, kudus, sable antelopes, lions, leopards, cheetahs and wild dogs are just a few of the large mammals to be seen and photographed in Moremi. Evenings often echo with the distant roars of lions and whoops of hyenas. Birdlife is plentiful and varied, ranging from tiny malachite kingfishers to huge goliath herons, little sparrow hawks to martial eagles, and pearlspotted owls to giant eagle owls.

Your guide is Roger Dugmore, one of Botswana’s most highly qualified professional guides.

Roger has been conducting photographic safaris since 1989 and his passion, knowledge and experience of wild areas translate into an unforgettable adventure in some of the most beautiful parts of Botswana. His personal interests lie in photography and videography, and many of his photographs have been exhibited in Botswana’s National Museums. He has assisted film crews in the making of many documentaries, including “Aspects of Life” and “The Last Edens” featuring the Okavango Delta and the Kalahari Desert.

Roger’s philosophy is that every safari is a journey of discovery, where each sunrise marks the beginning of another day of adventure. He is uniquely qualified to take you to wild and untamed areas in absolute comfort, including three-course meals, hot showers, cold drinks, and gives personal attention to your satisfaction and enjoyment. He prides himself in the number of guests that return each year, eager to once again experience their Roger Dugmore adventures.
