The Republic of Seychelles comprises 115 islands occupying a land area of 455 square kilometers and stretch like an array of jewels across 1.4million square kilometers in the Indian Ocean! Only a few of the islands are inhabited.

The granite islands of the Seychelles archipelago cluster around the main island of Mahé, home to the international airport and the capital, Victoria, and its satellites Praslin and La Digue.

Mahé is 27 kilometres long and 12 kilometers wide and is mountainous.

Many of the beaches are untouched by man's influence and are refreshingly un-crowded. Vallee de Mai is a world heritage site and home to the world's largest seed: the coco der mer.

As the Seychelles islands are blessed with a year-long warm, tropical climate, it’s always a good time to visit, although different times of year may be better suited to your particular interests.

Two opposing trade winds generally govern the weather pattern: the north-westerly trades blow from October to March when wind speeds average from 8 to 12 knots; and the brisker south-easterly trades blow from May to September with winds of between 10 to 20 knots, bringing the cooler and windier conditions ideal for sailing.

The periods of calm between the trades produce fairly warm and wind-free conditions throughout April and also in October. Conditions for swimming, snorkeling and especially diving are superb during April/May and October/November when the water temperature sometimes reaches 29ºC and visibility is often 30 meters plus.

The Aldabra Atoll is one of the world’s largest coral that stretches about 14 miles east to west. It is the original home of the giant land tortoise.

Seychelles is home to many species of birds, fish (about 800 species) and other marine life, together with a rich, unique flora.

The Seychelles islands are divided into 2 groups - the Inner Islands and the Outer Islands.

The tall granite Inner Islands cluster and the low-lying coralline cays, atolls and reef islands of the Outer Islands.

There are 43 Inner Islands - 41 granitic and 2 coralline and a total of 72 coralline Outer Islands.
