Five star rated Bukela Game Lodge is a romantic and secluded safari destination tucked away into indigenous trees and bushes at the top of a hidden valley at the Amkhala Game Reserve.

Connected by a wooden walkway, the thatched suites offer a remarkable private wildlife-viewing experience. This intimate family-run lodge, set on the banks of the Bushman’s River with a breathtaking vista of rolling African plains, offers an unprecedented safari experience where privacy and personalized attention is the hallmark of every stay.

Leeuwenbosch (4*)
Four star rated Leeuwenbosch Country House is a gracious colonial country house set amidst beautiful indigenous gardens, offering a family safari experience steeped in settler history.

Accommodation at Leeuwenbosch includes the historic Country House and the newer Shearers Lodge Suites. The Country House, built in 1908, offers five spacious en-suite bedrooms, and is layered with a collection of historical images, documents, and furniture dating back to the 1800s. Set back from the Country House, Shearers Lodge offers four more contemporary double suites, overlooking a cool low-roofed verandah and tranquil swimming pool.

Savor a quiet moment in the dim stillness of the 19th-century stone chapel. Enjoy high tea in the shade of the verandah. Sit late into the night in the convivial stone-walled cellar bar. This wonderful homestead has been in the Fowlds family for five generations, and the family takes great pleasure in sharing its remarkable Southern African family heritage with you.

The Country House ( 5 suites) on Leeuwenbosch caters for the whole family. We offer two family suites, baby sitting services and a children’s program.

Shearer’s Lodge has been beautifully converted into four luxury en–suite rooms, three twins and one really special honeymoon suite and surrounded by indigenous gardens.

Woodbury Lodge (4*)
Four star rated Woodbury Lodge is spectacularly set against a cliff above the Bushmans River valley in the Amakhala Game Reserve. It offers an intimate and tranquil experience of the Eastern Cape riverine bushveld at its best. It is the ideal place for families to relax and enjoy the bush together. Guests are often thrilled by the late afternoon sighting of the elephant herd passing by.

All rooms have private decks and large bathrooms with a view over the plains. Child minding facilities are available.

A range of game viewing and other activities such as the river cruise and bush walks are on offer, or you could just recline around the communal swimming pool and enjoy some sun while the birds keep you company. Unfortunately, no under 6 years are permitted on game drives.

Guests are accommodated in 6 comfortably appointed stone–and–thatch sleeping lodges, each with air–conditioning and en–suite bathroom, including 2 family suites. The seclusion of the lodges and the design of the bathrooms and individual outdoor relaxation areas enable visitors to enjoy the unique and breathtaking views at your leisure.

Reed Valley Inn (4*)
Four star rated Reed Valley is situated in the farmyard and comprises of historic en-suite country rooms (4), each with separate entrances onto private patios and en-suite bathroom. (Bath and Shower).

These rooms once provided rest and safe haven for the ‘mail wagon travelers’. A large swimming pool provides a welcome relief to the warm summer days.

All meals and activities are enjoyed from our 5-star Bush Lodge.

Set in the heart of Amakhala Game Reserve, the tranquil surroundings of the open bushveld allow you to escape from normal day-to-day activities.

The center of the Woodbury Tented Camp is an airy, thatched entertainment area, looking out over spectacular views of game-filled plains, this magical setting provides an outdoor feeling to complement delicious traditional meals.

Woodbury Tented Camp offers a view of the historical site across the valley that is home to the first dinosaur fossil discovery in South Africa.

The seven tents are comfortably fitted out as bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Carnarvon Dale (3*)
Carnarvon Dale is an 1857 family farm on the banks of the Bushman’s River. This historic Settler farmhouse once provided lodgings for travelers, whose journeys had been halted by the flooded river, until it was safe for them to cross.
Carnarvon Dale consists of the Settler farmhouse, the Bottom House, and an elegantly restored early Edwardian cottage, the Top House.

On offer is a choice of en-suite serviced bedrooms with private lounges meeting three star grading requirements. A family suite is available on request.

Delicious farm-style meals are served in the main dining room. Morning and late afternoon guided game drives in an open Land Rover are arranged to suit your personal needs.

For a change of pace enjoy our bird watching and game spotting walks along the lazy Bushman’s River. And for those really hot days, there's an inviting swimming pool to cool off in.

Quatermain’s Camp
Set in a secluded valley, Quatermain’s Camp embodies the original spirit of safari. This classic 1920s style expedition camp is modeled on the heyday of exploration, that golden era when adventure lay around every corner.

Intimate 6-bed camp offers you the opportunity to experience “Africa under canvas”, with 3 crisp, white 1920 style safari tents fitted out with military campaign-style furnishings; the choice of pioneers, hunters and explorers of that time.  

Relax in the centralized boma area where local delicacies are prepared in front of you on an open fire and dinner is served under a blanket of stars. Every effort has been made to stay true to the expedition style, with concessions only being allowed for rustic bathrooms with modern conveniences. Guests at our expedition camp can enjoy the excitement of "Big 5" safari's with the option for "Big 5" walks, bush walks and birding safari's as well.
