Tanzania is bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west and by Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the South.

Although Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, we have listed it separately as it offers such a different experience.

Tanzania is a safe country to travel in. Tanzanians are warm-hearted and eager to help visitors get the most out of their stay.

Visas are required for most visitors and usually you will get a 3-month single-entry tourist visa from your local Tanzanian Embassy. The currency is the Tanzania shilling which is divided into 100 cents. The official languages are Kiswahili and English.

Tanzania offers tourists some of the best safari game viewing in Africa and has beautiful beaches, making it the ideal combination safari and beach vacation destination. Main attractions include Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater to name a few.

The climate is mainly tropical with little fluctuation in temperatures between summer and winter due to it being near the equator. The coastal areas are hot and humid with average day time temperatures of 30 degrees celius. The central plateau experiences hot days and cool nights. The hottest months are October to February. The coolest months are June, July and August. In high-altitude areas such as Kilimanjaro and the Ngorongoro Highlands, temperatures can fall below freezing. The main, long rainy season is from mid-March to late May when it can rain for hours, even days.

Tanzania boasts the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro, which is permanently snow-capped. Mount Kilimanjaro stands nearly 6km high and is in the Kilimanjaro National Park. There are six different routes up Mount Kilimanjaro with varying degrees of difficulty and the best time to climb is between August and November.

Over 25% of the country's total landmass is dedicated to wildlife parks and conservation areas.
There are 3 International Airports into Tanzania & Zanzibar; Dar-es-Salaam, Kilimanjaro International Airport and Zanzibar International Airport. There are many airstrips for easy access to your Tanzania safari destinations.

Due to the size and number of attractions in Tanzania, the tourism board has divided the country into 4 circuits, namely;

Tanzania Western Safari Circuit
Tanzania Coastal Circuit

To begin safaris in Northern Tanzania, most visitors are advised to book with Airlines whose arrivals & departures are at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) which is 45 minutes drive from Arusha town. It is also possible to get flights arriving at Nairobi (Kenya) from where you can make arrangements to transfer to Arusha/Kilimanjaro.

Vaccination requirements change from time to time. We suggest you consult your local doctor or health department for information on the latest health precautions. Currently, shots against Yellow fever and cholera are recommended but not mandatory. As a precaution we usually advise anti-malaria medicine to be taken before, during and after your visit to East Africa. Also, if you are on prescription medication, please ensure you have an adequate supply to last the duration of your stay and a copy of your prescription(s).
